Top 10 Men’s Fashion Trends to Try in 2015

Street style trends are not only inspirational, they resemble the creative, innovative and personal expressions of style. The latest in men’s street style has hallmarked a return to traditionalism, but with a twist. From the school uniform tartans and bold nautical stripes to the revamped double-breasted blazers and reconstructed denims, the top men’s street style trends are an amalgam of conventional meets contemporary.

1. Nautical Stripes

The recent street style trend of stripes alludes to a nautical edge, with recurring colours like bold reds, deep navies and crisp whites. Keep looks casual with thinner pin stripes or go bold with thick statement stripes on t-shirt or jackets. Do not fear an unexpected use of stripes on the cardigan or a sweater and team them with darker sunglasses for a sleek finish to your striped looks.

2. Brown Suede Shoes

Elvis had it wrong; brown suede shoes are more worthy to be sung about. With clean simple lines, a brown suede loafer, boot or slipper can transition seamlessly with the neutrals and powder hues typically featured in spring and summer clothing palettes. Keep things versatile with deep, dusty browns for a classic annotation to existing staple pieces and team with clothing in varying shades of blue for a conventional yet cool interpretation of the trend. MANSUR GAVRIEL INTRODUCES NEW BAG AND SHOE STYLES AT FASHION WEEK

Mansur Gavriel, maker of the famous — and still hard to find — minimalist bucket bag, held its second New York Fashion Week presentation in downtown Manhattan Monday, where designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel introduced two new bag shapes and five new shoe styles that are bound to get loyal followers panting.

In a two-tiered room painted Mansur Gavriel's signature pale pink, models swathed in soft camel walked about examining the styles on display, and lounging over bowls of fruit and couches the same delicate color as their clothes. In their hands were the two new bag shapes for fall 2016. The first of these, the Sun, is a top-handled bag threaded with a leather tie that comes in large, medium and mini sizes — in its largest incantation, it reads like a more modern, minimalist take on the Birkin, and would work well as a bag to tote to and from work. It comes in a lush suede as well as both calf and patent leather — the latter two materials are a first for the label. Other models carried a squarish, more vintage-inspired bag called the Elegant, featuring both a top-handle and a clasp, suitable for more formal occasions.

On their feet models wore matching shoes in five new styles: a Venetian loafer (in heel heights of 10mm and 30mm), a classic flat loafer, a pointed heel, a backless "heel slipper," a ballerina (in flat and 40mm) and, the most novel, a suede ankle boot lined with thick shearling, which ranged in heel height from flat to 90mm, with the taller styles featuring a platform sole. In light-colored suede, it may not be the most practical winter option, but it's certainly a very luxe and chic one. "We just wanted a really cozy winter boot that felt wearable," Mansur said before the show. "The boot we always wished we could have," Gavriel added.

Mansur and Gavriel have been especially busy as of late, supervising the delivery of their spring 2016 collection — the first to feature shoes — and designing this one. The company now has 18 employees, but all of the design and production is still handled entirely by the two of them. "It's getting challenging, we need to build that team," Mansur said. As for the promised ready-to-wear line? They're still working on finding the right partners.

For those of you hoping to get your hands on spring '16 shoes: Net-a-Porter has already received several styles, and will be receiving more over the next two weeks. A selection of other top-tier retailers — Opening Ceremony, Bergdorf Goodman, Dover Street Market, Colette, Steven Alan Tribeca and Lane Crawford — are scheduled to receive deliveries around the same time, with the label's own e-commerce site to follow.

Designer Ji Oh designs with the city girl in mind, and when I saw her fall presentation, I thought she found a way inside my own brain, too. I can easily see myself stomping through the New York streets in this cocoon-like ensemble. (See now, buy now, please?) The indented sleeves and heavy stripes are interesting updates to a classic crew neck and pair of culottes. —Maria Bobila

Oh used faux fur to accent a number of her looks — as pockets on shirts, an oversized varsity jacket and a smock-like tunic over a dress, to name a few. This was my favorite idea because it elevated the top's "cold shoulder" silhouette, but was seamlessly balanced with an asymmetrical panel skirt and creeper booties. — Maria Bobila

PHILLIP LIM DELIVERS AN ARMY OF STRONG WOMEN IN SERENE SILHOUETTES

The 3.1 Phillip Lim fall show began with thunder. A rail of lights above the runway flickered in time to a soundtrack of roaring and crashing bass, which continued at a steady pace as the models flew past unencumbered by the hair hanging in their faces.

With 10 years under his belt, Lim has become known for pushing his vision forward while staying in his zone — luxurious, contemporary clothing for the busy, modern working woman. And while this newest collection was feminine and sophisticated, even with its many masculine silhouettes, a toughness permeated in details like a row of wide metallic staples joining seams, dangling straps off kimono-style jackets and coats, animal skin fanny packs, densely pleated metallic skirts and tops, and boots that look like velvet socks worn with matte leather mules. Even thick beaded socks worn with sandals felt assertive.

Lim presented several strong suiting options in pinstripes, mismatched tweed, burned out jacquard and rich orange velvet. The pant legs were wide and the overall look was boxy, but not too much as to override a general sleekness. But the real standout might be an asymmetrical belted tunic that popped up in several different forms — a dress with a higher neck, another combining a palm pattern and velvet, a mixed print shirt — that looked even better from the back. It was loose but accentuated the hips, modest yet revealing (thanks to a sheer panel at the neckline) and versatile yet distinctive.

The piece was a prime example of the "dose of youth and glamour" mentioned in the show notes, which said the collection was inspired by the mindset "life as your stage." But as the thunder served to indicate, Lim's stage isn't a fairy tale — it's an industrial runway for an industrious woman.

CHILDREN WERE THE REAL STREET STYLE STARS ON DAY 5 OF NYFW

We have mixed feelings about children and babies attending runway shows, but if anyone on the NYFW calendar can appeal to kids, it's probably Jeremy Scott, with his bright colors, silly patterns and cartoon motifs. And since President's Day meant a day off from school, several seriously stylish kids arrived at his show Monday in colorful sneakers, leather jackets and tiny beanies. Please note the young gentleman, in the center image above, wearing Storm Trooper pants and a denim Calvin Klein baseball cap. It's truly the perfect outfit. Plus, he's already got the expressionless street style pose down pat. His sister (we assume) in the camouflage coat and pink and green laces, appears less than pleased despite how fantastic her pink fluffy bag is.

Indeed, all six of these kids looked perfectly put together from head to toe, despite the day's nasty weather. We applaud them and/or the parents who dressed them.

Barneys New York returns to downtown Manhattan
Barneys New York has completed its new downtown flagship, located in the same block where the company was founded back in 1923. The 55,000-square-foot flagship spans five floors, and will include a Blind Barber barbershop and Freds restaurant, in addition to clothing, accessories and cosmetics. {Fashionista inbox}

MSGM bans social media at fashion show
For his upcoming fall/winter 2017 show, MSGM's Massimo Giorgetti is asking press and buyers to put down their phones and not post any pictures on social media. His reasoning?
